Google+ Business Pages were launch a couple of weeks ago and the feedback has so far been good. It's Google+ answer to Facebook fan pages where brands and local businesses can utilize the reach of social networks in order to increase brand awareness and promote their products or services. Industry pundits say that while Google+ Pages can't go head to head with Facebook pages yet, Google+ is actually experimenting with the notion of social extensions within AdWords. This means that having a Google+ page can enhance your SEO and PPC as well.

Google rolled out 2 types of social extensions namely Basic and Personal. A Personal social extension shows how many of your Google+ contacts have +1'd the landing page of your site or the Google+ page of your business. While the Basic social extension shows how many people on the Web have +1'd your Google+ business page or the landing page of your website.

So why do you have to set up a Google+ page for your business and enhance your online presence with social extensions? SEOmoz' Justin Vanning compiled a handful of advantages. Here you go:

  • Most advertisers still aren't utilizing social extensions so you can roll out with them before your competitors do.
  • It only takes a few minutes to set up, it is free, and it will instantly give your ads more credibility and trust by having the social annotations appear within them.
  • While the results are still very preliminary, it appears that ads with social annotations are generating higher CTRs.
